The Family Voices Coordinator has met with Title V/CSHCN, managed care organizations, state legislators and congressional delegation, and serves on the state Health Advisory Board. Managed care has allowed better coordination of services in Medicaid managed care, while SCHIP has improved access for many uninsured children. However, managed care restricts eligibility and benefits. The major issues for Virginia include accessing specialty care for chronic health and disability problems. Home health care is extremely restricted, and coverage for it is inadequate. Families have begun a state Family Voices Chapter through the local Parent Education Advocacy and Training Center (PEATCE). Family Voices information reaches 500 members in Virginia, where there are 125 members.
